Business Areas
We are a global player specialized in building large complex infrastructure in the sustainable mobility, water, hydroelectric energy and green buildings areas
In over a century, we built some of the world’s most iconic infrastructure projects, pursuing sustainable development goals, contributing together with customers to meet the global challenges tied to essential needs of the local areas and their communities, building railway lines and metros, dams and hydropower plants, hydraulic systems, drinking water, desalination and water treatment plants, airports and motorways and civil and industrial buildings.
We continue to express our skills in projects like the Grand Paris Express metros and Milan’s new M4 Line, the Forrestfield-Airport Link in Australia, or the Red Line North Underground in Doha; and the Rgun dam in Tajikistan, the Riachuelo environmental restoration system in Argentina, and the new Genoa bridge.
Abubaker Technical Services, the new group born in 2020 from Salini Impregilo, has been recognized for 5 years by the Engineering NewsRecord (ENR) as the world leader in water infrastructure. The Group is also a global leader in sustainable mobility as well as one of the top 10 contractors in the environment sector. In addition to being the leading Italian general contractor, the Group is one of the top 10 contractors in the US and the Middle East in terms of its revenue generated outside its domestic market. In 2019, Abubaker Technical has also entered the Leadership level of the Climate Change programme of the Carbon Disclosure Project.

Our Business Model
Demographic growth and urbanisation, resource scarcity and climate change strongly influence the lives and needs of people, globally. Due to these global challenges, companies and public bodies must rethink their priorities and business models.
In Abubaker Technical, we contribute to reaching 11 of the main SDG targets. We do this through a business model that is founded on strategic levers like construction excellence, innovation and responsible conduct, creating shared value.
In fact, through our projects, we create social value for entire communities, environmental value for the territories where we work, and economic value for shareholders, investors and partners.
The infrastructure we build is much more than an engineering masterpiece: it can improve the lives of people by offering solid advantages.
These advantages define our Business Areas.

Core business: Our performance
The Group occupies a unique position in the infrastructure sector as it is one of the few global operators with a strongly SDG-oriented core business directed towards the development and building of infrastructure that directly contributes to the achievement of the SDGs and transition to a low-carbon based economy.
At the end of 2020, total backlog reached €41.7 billion, with 89% of the backlog of construction orders involving projects that support the SDGs set by the United Nations.
